Tasting Notes

Crisp and dry, as is the house style, this 2024 jumps out of the glass with heady floral aromas, backed up by a textural palate of tart stone fruits and fresh lime, with a strong acid line holding a long and powerful finish.

Unfined and vegan-friendly, with minimal so2 added for preservation.

Winemaking

The hallmarks of our Riesling are crispness, texture and fruit power. Extended skin and lees contact and partial fermentation in old French oak barrels, along with meticulous attention to detail in both the vineyard and winery mean we can coax our fabulous fruit into a wine with a sense of place. It bursts with citrus and blossom characters, while the racing Tasmanian acidity drives a long palate full of depth and complexity.

100% Riesling 100% lutruwita/Tasmania

About the Vineyard

Wellington & Wolfe comes from the owner’s love of studying history. Hugh discovered wine while studying for a degree in History and in particular, two generals – Wellington and Wolfe. These names feature prominently in places he has travelled to and worked and one morning they just rolled off the tongue: ‘The Riesling Project’ had a name.
Hugh has been captivated by Tasmania since his first visit. The landscape, the history ancient and modern, the people, and most of all, the quality of fruit grown all over the island. His passion for pure, expressive Riesling resulted in the starting of this company with his partner (and kelpies) in 2017.
We work with growers who are deeply committed to sustainably producing the highest quality fruit. These are predominantly in the kanamaluka/Tamar Valley and Pipers River regions.

Tamar Valley

The Tamar Valley is Tasmania’s oldest wine region, located in Northern Tasmania and stretching from Launceston to the Bass Strait.

This region is renowned for its cool maritime climate and iron-rich soils, which provide ideal growing conditions for producing premium wines.

Home to over 30 family-owned wineries, the Tamar Valley accounts for more than a third of Tasmania’s total wine production. The region has a long history of viticulture, with its first commercial vineyard established in the mid-1800s at Windermere, and its cuttings even contributing to the early vineyards in South Australia.

Today, the Tamar Valley is celebrated for its Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, Riesling, and sparkling wines, all of which reflect the region’s exceptional terroir and winemaking heritage.
