L'appel Wines
L'appel is the small-batch project of Tasmanian vignerons Bart Johnston and Jess Nuel, sourcing fruit from standout sites across the Tamar Valley, Huon Valley, Coal River Valley and East Coast. Bart's path to winemaking ran through the Pinot Noirs of Oregon's Willamette Valley and a stint on the Mornington Peninsula before Tasmania pulled him home. The wines are wild fermented, unfiltered and made with a light touch, built around regional expression rather than a fixed house style. Honest, curious winemaking from two of the island's rising names.

The RDJ is L'appel's more structured, serious release and it shows. Rich blackberry and bright cranberry on the nose, with smooth, lasting tannins on the palate. Well-structured and elegant, with real depth that highlights the Coal River Valley's distinctive character. A wine that rewards patience as much as it rewards opening now. L'Appel Bon Plonk 2025 is a bright, light-bodied Pinot Noir from Tasmania's rugged East Coast. This easy-drinking red delivers cherry cola, bush strawberry, and raspberry compote notes. L'Appel Cosmorama 2025 Pinot Noir is a brooding Tasmanian wine with striking aromatics of violets, grapefruit peel, and dried orange. On the palate, blood plums meld with garrigue spices, sage, thyme, and oregano. While whole-bunch tannins provide elegant structure. Drink now or cellar for years to come.
