(0)
$120.00
*** MAX 2 BOTTLES PER CUSTOMER ***
Tolpuddle is one of Tasmania's most revered vineyards, and this Chardonnay is a masterclass in understated elegance. Crisp sugar snap pea, fennel, and white nectarine on the nose, with a whisper of struck match complexity. The palate has remarkable tension and persistence. Tolpuddle's hallmark acidity and a distinctive chalky minerality that deepens with each sip. A wine that proves true quality lies in balance, precision, and the confidence to let subtle flavours speak for themselves. Very limited stock. Pair with fresh crayfish, scallops, or aged soft cheese. Drink now through 2034.

Aroma
Tightly coiled at first, this Chardonnay slowly opens to white flowers and jasmine, layered with a complex, savoury lees character.
Palette
Powerful yet precise, with impressive concentration and energy. Tightly coiled at first, revealing white flower and jasmine, layered with a complex, savoury lees character. The palate carries weight and extract while remaining clean and driven by a firm core of acidity. Lime zest and tonic notes bring freshness and subtle astringency to the finish.
Pairings
The weight, savoury lees character and driving acidity make this a great match for Tasmanian crayfish, scallops or oysters. It also suits roast chicken with butter and herbs, pan-fried white fish, creamy mushroom pasta, and washed-rind or aged hard cheeses.
Wine Making
All fruit was hand-picked and whole bunch pressed, then fermented in French oak. The wine spent ten months in barrel with gentle lees stirring as required, then rested on lees in tank for a further four months. From the 2025 vintage, which had a cool, dry lead-up to veraison and slow, even ripening that kept acidity high.
Meet the owners
Tolpuddle is widely regarded as one of Australia's great single vineyards. Planted in 1988 in the Coal River Valley, the site quietly supplied fruit to some of the country's most famous labels, including Penfolds' Yattarna, before Adelaide Hills winemakers Martin Shaw and Michael Hill Smith stumbled across it on a Tasmanian road trip in 2011 and fell for it on the spot. The name honours the Tolpuddle Martyrs, transported convicts who once worked land nearby. Farmed with care and made with a light touch, Tolpuddle's Chardonnay and Pinot Noir are released annually via waitlist and consistently rank among the finest in the country.

Coal River Valley
About the region
Tucked into the valleys surrounding the historic town of Richmond, the Coal River Valley is Tasmania's sunniest wine region. Low rainfall, abundant sunshine and cooling breezes off the Tasman Sea come together to create conditions that are about as close to perfect as it gets for grape growing. It shows in the wines: Chardonnay with real texture and depth, Pinot Noir with elegance and structure, Riesling with precision, and sparkling wines that hold their own against the best in the world.
