Aroma

Energetic, fine bubbles surge in the glass, carrying alluring aromas of citrus blossom and delicate floral honey.

Palette

A complex, layered palate of brioche, grapefruit and clementine, Tasmanian kunzea honey and toasted almond, wrapped in creamy, softly yeasty complexity. Gentle acidity refreshes with each sip, and the extended time on lees shows in the harmonious palate and the long, moreish aftertaste.

Pairings

The creamy texture and fresh acidity make this a great match for Tasmanian oysters, scallops or crayfish. It also suits soft, creamy cheeses such as brie or triple-cream, roast chicken, and nutty or buttery dishes like seared scallops with almond.

Wine Making

A blend of 60% Chardonnay and 40% Pinot Noir, grown in a single vineyard dedicated to traditional method sparkling wine. It sits on a cooler part of the estate, 5 kilometres west of the main Freycinet vineyards, where slow ripening gives delicacy and finesse. The wine had a long elevage in tank on lees, then a further 5 years and 9 months of maturation on lees. It was late disgorged and has spent more than 9 months on cork. Radenti is one of a select few grower-producer sparkling wines in Australia, and is now in its 33rd year of production.

Meet the owners

Freycinet Vineyard has one of the great origin stories in Tasmanian wine. Geoff Bull was a Sydney Morning Herald photographer turned abalone diver before he and his wife Susan settled in Bicheno and, in 1979, planted the first commercial vineyard on Tasmania's East Coast, guided by pioneers like Andrew Pirie and Claudio Alcorso. Still family owned today, with daughter Lindy and her partner Claudio Radenti carrying the winemaking forward, Freycinet remains 100% estate grown, made and bottled, tucked beneath the dramatic backdrop of the Freycinet Peninsula and Wineglass Bay. Traditional techniques, tight-grain French oak, and minimal intervention define a range that's picked up national acclaim for its Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Riesling.

East Coast

About the region

Stretching from St Helens in the north to Bream Creek in the south, Tasmania's East Coast is as breathtaking as it is bountiful. A milder climate than the rest of the state, spectacular coastal scenery, and over 300 hectares under vine make this one of Tasmania's most exciting wine regions. Pinot Noir and Chardonnay are the stars, but the East Coast also turns out outstanding Riesling, Pinot Gris and Sauvignon Blanc, wines with a freshness and purity that's genuinely hard to find anywhere else.
