Winemaking

The Chartley Estate Sparkling Rosé 2020 is made using the Methode Traditionelle, with the secondary fermentation occurring in the bottle.

The wine is crafted from 60% Pinot Noir and 40% Chardonnay, which lends the wine its bright fruit character and fine structure. After spending 3 years on lees, the wine develops additional layers of complexity and a creamy mouthfeel.

The cool-climate conditions of the Tamar River region allow for slow ripening, ensuring the vibrant acidity and fruit purity that define this elegant sparkling rosé.

About the Vineyard

Located in Northern Tasmania’s Tamar River region, Chartley Estate benefits from the area’s cool maritime climate, which provides ideal growing conditions for Pinot Noir and Chardonnay.

The region’s long sunshine hours and cool nights allow for a slow ripening period, resulting in wines with bright acidity and expressive fruit flavours. The talented winemaker Jeremy Dineen brings his expertise to the vineyard, crafting wines that reflect both the terroir and the unique character of the region.

Tamar Valley

The Tamar Valley is Tasmania’s oldest wine region, located in Northern Tasmania and stretching from Launceston to the Bass Strait.

This region is renowned for its cool maritime climate and iron-rich soils, which provide ideal growing conditions for producing premium wines.

Home to over 30 family-owned wineries, the Tamar Valley accounts for more than a third of Tasmania’s total wine production. The region has a long history of viticulture, with its first commercial vineyard established in the mid-1800s at Windermere, and its cuttings even contributing to the early vineyards in South Australia.

Today, the Tamar Valley is celebrated for its Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, Riesling, and sparkling wines, all of which reflect the region’s exceptional terroir and winemaking heritage.
