Bremley Vineyard sits beneath Gunnings Sugarloaf in Coal River Valley, where cool nights and warm days shape distinctive Chardonnay. Black cracking clays and dolerite soils, sheltered from north-westerly winds, deliver complexity and balance. Custodians James and Vanessa Bresnehan partner with winemakers Justin Bubb and Anna Pooley to craft this single-vineyard expression. A wine built on sustainable practice and deep site knowledge.

Aroma

Aromatically bright and restrained, showing lifted citrus blossom, white flowers, lemon zest and wet stone, layered with subtle oak spice and struck-flint complexity.

Palette

Pale straw with green-gold hues. The palate is tight, energetic and finely structured, revealing flavours of lemon curd, white peach and nectarine. Lees maturation contributes a creamy, textured mid-palate while preserving the wine’s linear acidity and cool-climate precision. Subtle French oak influence adds depth without overwhelming the fruit. The finish is clean, persistent and slightly saline, carrying lingering mineral and structural notes that reflect its Tasmanian origins. Crafted to drink beautifully on release, though the balance of acidity, fruit concentration and texture should allow graceful cellaring for 5–8 years.

Pairings

Pairs beautifully with grilled seafood, roast chicken, creamy pasta, lobster, scallops, pork dishes and soft cheeses. Its balance of freshness and texture also works well with richer dishes featuring butter, herbs or cream.

Wine Making

The 2025 Chardonnay was
100% whole bunch pressed
and naturally settled in tank
overnight before being racked
to barrel for fermentation
with selected yeast. The wine
was matured in French oak
puncheons, with 30% new oak
from François Frères, enhancing
texture and complexity. It
spent nine months in barrel
with minimal stirring, allowing
the fruit to remain pure and
expressive while building subtle
structure and depth.

Meet the owners

Bremley Vineyard sits at the northern edge of the Coal River Valley, beneath the shelter of Gunnings Sugarloaf. James and Vanessa Bresnehan took over the site in 2008 and spent years supplying fruit to other producers, including Penfolds' famed Yattarna Chardonnay, before deciding to make their own wine. Teaming up with respected winemakers Justin Bubb and Anna Pooley, Bremley has quickly built a reputation for pure, site-driven Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, taking out the Australian Pinot Noir Challenge in 2024.

About the region

Tucked into the valleys surrounding the historic town of Richmond, the Coal River Valley is Tasmania's sunniest wine region. Low rainfall, abundant sunshine and cooling breezes off the Tasman Sea come together to create conditions that are about as close to perfect as it gets for grape growing. It shows in the wines: Chardonnay with real texture and depth, Pinot Noir with elegance and structure, Riesling with precision, and sparkling wines that hold their own against the best in the world.
