Apogee 'Alto' Pinot Gris 2024

(0)

$45.00

A very pale bronze gold in the glass, the 2024 Pinot Gris opens with classic Apogee aromatics of nashi pear, crushed white flowers, rose and musk over a chalky mineral core. Limited skin contact and the estate's signature winemaking, including partial malolactic fermentation and 30% ageing in 2–4-year-old French oak bring a refined roundness and mid-full body to the palate, while good natural acidity keeps it vibrant and fresh. Sitting somewhere between an Alsace Gris and an Italian Grigio, it's a richer, more textural style shaped by cool growing-season temperatures, free draining ironstone soils and a late April harvest that allowed for a long, unhurried ripening.

Aroma

Very typical APOGEE aromatics with nashi
pear, crushed white flowers, rose, musk and
chalky minerals.

Palette

Good acidity gives vibrant freshness, acidity
and textures from limited skin contact
balanced by mid-full body. There is a refined
roundness, which comes from our style of
winemaking. Mid-palate intensity comes
from our trellis system.
The richer style is somewhere between
Alsace Gris and Italian Grigio.

Pairings

Traditionally, Pinot Gris is
served with rich pork dishes, but this wine
could be perfectly paired with grilled whiting
served with butter and lemon, mussels with
white wine or spicy food such as Green Thai
chicken curry

Meet the owners

Apogee is the culmination of nearly 50 years of Tasmanian winemaking experience from Dr Andrew Pirie, the man who founded Pipers Brook Vineyard back in 1974. At his 2-hectare single-vineyard site near Lebrina, Andrew focuses purely on traditional method sparkling wine using classic Champagne varieties, alongside small runs of table wine. It's a project built on decades of studying Tasmania's terroir, aiming to prove that Tasmanian sparkling wine can go head to head with the best in the world.

About the region

Established in 1974 by Dr Andrew Pirie, Pipers River and Pipers Brook is the region that put Tasmanian sparkling wine on the map. A climate that mirrors Champagne, hilly terrain, and some of Tasmania's most prestigious producers come together here to create sparkling wines of extraordinary finesse. Pinot Noir and Chardonnay are just as at home, producing wines of real depth, complexity and cool climate elegance.
