Home Hill Estate Pinot Noir 2023
(0)
$60.00
Home Hill's Huon Valley estate produces Pinot Noir with real ambition, and this 2023 delivers on it. Deep dark ruby in the glass, with sweet red cherry, blackberries, and boysenberries on the nose, underpinned by earthy forest floor. The palate is richly concentrated with chocolate, almond and vanilla layered over uplifting sweet fruit with fine chalky tannins and a long, elegant finish. Built to age gracefully for up to 15 years, but already showing beautifully. Pair with beef short rib or duck confit. Drink now through 2038.

Aroma
Deep dark ruby in the glass, with aromas of sweet red cherry, blackberries, boysenberries, and forest floor perfume.
Palette
Bright, nicely defined dark and red strawberry fruits with tones of exotic spice, leaf litter, dried cranberries, pressed meadow flowers, vanilla pod, Satsuma plum, mocha and earth. Savoury and long, the plum and cherry fruits plump up slightly on the palate, sheathed in spice, herb and gamey nuance, before focusing and travelling. Bright, with just a swish of sour cherry and chalky tannin at the back end.
Pairings
The richness and structure suit rack of lamb, confit duck, or roast chicken — dishes with enough depth to match the wine's concentration.
Wine Making
This wine includes 3% whole bunch fermentation to enhance its structure and complexity. It was matured in French oak barrels (20% new oak) for 10 months, contributing to its delicate oak influence, with hints of vanilla and spice. The careful use of oak and natural winemaking techniques allow the fruit’s purity to shine while adding subtle depth and richness.
Meet the owners
Home Hill began as a hobby for Terry and Rosemary Bennett, who planted their first vines on an old apple orchard in the Huon Valley back in 1991. What started with a handful of hectares of Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and the rare Sylvaner grape grew into one of Australia's most decorated small wineries, taking out the prestigious Jimmy Watson Trophy in 2015 for their Kelly's Reserve Pinot Noir. Now a genuine family affair with son Sean alongside Terry in the vineyard, Home Hill remains grounded in the same quiet, unhurried patch of Tasmania's coolest wine region.

Huon Valley
About the region
Deep in Tasmania's south, the Huon Valley is one of the island's most dramatic wine regions, steep hillsides, ancient apple orchards, and a cool, wet climate that really pushes grapes to their limits. That challenge is exactly what gives the wines their intensity and character. Pinot Noir thrives here, producing wines with dark fruit, earthy complexity and a structure built for the cellar. A region for anyone after something genuinely different.
