Aroma

Aromatic of spice and blue fruits with a classic cool climate white pepper lift

Palette

Is fresh and driven with a succulent pomegranate acidity and sappy juicy tannin. A bright intellectual wine which has a relaxed nature of a picnic to a more serious degustation.

Pairings

It suits a relaxed spread of charcuterie, roasted duck with plum or cherry, or slow-cooked lamb shoulder with rosemary and garlic. For something lighter, try mushroom and thyme risotto, or grilled sausages with a bright, herby salsa verde.

Wine Making

Fruit was fermented separately with 20% of the
Syrah fermented with whole bunches. The remaining fruit was destemmed into small open fermenters and allowed to
undergo natural fermentation with daily punchdowns. Basket
-pressed to a mix of hogs head and puncheons with only 10% new oak. The wines were blended post malolactic
fermentation, with minimal filtration prior to bottle.

Meet the owners

Beautiful Isle Wines began in 2010, when co-founders and winemaking partners Cynthea and David found themselves with some odds and ends in the winery from the Marion's Vineyard estate. For fun, they blended them together on the tasting bench, creating an estate-grown white and red field blend. They liked the results so much that they bottled them, and soon realised the wines needed a home of their own.

That home became Beautiful Isle Wines, inspired by the property's original crop: apples. In the old apple shed, Cynthea and David discovered a series of vintage apple crate labels, which an artist has since incorporated into the Haven and Beautiful Isle labels that adorn the first releases. Iconic in fruit label art, these are two of the brightest, friendliest crate prints around, and a perfect fit for the wines inside. The word "Fancy" was used in the 1930s to mark top quality fruit, which is exactly the spirit here. Fancy Wine! Fancy That!

About the region

The Tamar Valley is Tasmania's oldest wine region, stretching from Launceston to the Bass Strait in the state's north. Its cool maritime climate and iron-rich soils create ideal growing conditions, and the numbers speak for themselves, home to over 30 family-owned wineries, the Tamar Valley accounts for more than a third of Tasmania's total wine production. Viticulture here goes back a long way too, with the first commercial vineyard established in the mid-1800s at Windermere, its cuttings even helping establish some of South Australia's earliest vineyards. Today, the Tamar Valley is celebrated for its Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, Riesling and sparkling wines, each one reflecting the region's exceptional terroir and winemaking heritage.
