This wine unfurls with time, allowing more generous sweet red fruits to emerge and giving way to a smooth and savory finish. We practice gentle unobtrusive winemaking that allows our wines to age considerably.

Pairings

It suits roasted mushrooms on toasted sourdough, slow-braised beef cheeks, or duck breast with a cherry jus. For something simpler, try roast chicken with thyme and garlic, or a wedge of aged cheddar or Gruyère alongside some charcuterie. Its generous red fruit and savoury finish also work well with a cosy winter dish like wild mushroom pappardelle.

Wine Making

Fruit was brought into the winery in late March.
The young vine clones of MV6 and 777 were low yielding and small berries so were destemmed to small opens. The older fruit Abel and was partially whole bunched with destemmed fruit over the top. Punch downs twice per day with natural fermentation and put to French oak barriques and hogs heads at dryness. Natural malo in spring. The wine was blended to tanks after 11 months and bottled in April 2025.

Meet the owners

Beautiful Isle Wines began in 2010, when co-founders and winemaking partners Cynthea and David found themselves with some odds and ends in the winery from the Marion's Vineyard estate. For fun, they blended them together on the tasting bench, creating an estate-grown white and red field blend. They liked the results so much that they bottled them, and soon realised the wines needed a home of their own.

That home became Beautiful Isle Wines, inspired by the property's original crop: apples. In the old apple shed, Cynthea and David discovered a series of vintage apple crate labels, which an artist has since incorporated into the Haven and Beautiful Isle labels that adorn the first releases. Iconic in fruit label art, these are two of the brightest, friendliest crate prints around, and a perfect fit for the wines inside. The word "Fancy" was used in the 1930s to mark top quality fruit, which is exactly the spirit here. Fancy Wine! Fancy That!

About the region

The Tamar Valley is Tasmania's oldest wine region, stretching from Launceston to the Bass Strait in the state's north. Its cool maritime climate and iron-rich soils create ideal growing conditions, and the numbers speak for themselves, home to over 30 family-owned wineries, the Tamar Valley accounts for more than a third of Tasmania's total wine production. Viticulture here goes back a long way too, with the first commercial vineyard established in the mid-1800s at Windermere, its cuttings even helping establish some of South Australia's earliest vineyards. Today, the Tamar Valley is celebrated for its Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, Riesling and sparkling wines, each one reflecting the region's exceptional terroir and winemaking heritage.
