Lifted and perfumed, with classic Gewürztraminer florals, rose petal and lychee, layered over citrus blossom and a touch of spice. The wild ferment and lees contact add a subtle textural depth beneath the aromatics.

Palette

Bright and vibrant on the palate, with the wine's signature refreshing acidity front and centre. Stone fruit and citrus flavours carry through with a delicate spiced note on the finish, staying taut and food-friendly rather than heavy or sweet.

Pairings

The natural aromatic intensity and acidity make this a strong match for Asian-inflected dishes — think Thai green curry, ginger-spiced seafood, or a fragrant laksa. Also pairs beautifully with soft washed-rind cheeses, or simply on its own as an aperitif.

Wine Making

As always, a tiny little parcel from our Waverley Vineyard, just east of Launceston.

We love making this wine, it signals the start of harvest each year, just enough fruit to check everything is working ok in the winery before we get serious.

We try to pick this before it gets ripe really, theres always plenty of flavour, and I want the acidity to keep the wine vibrant. Whole bunch pressed straight to barriques, wild ferment, topped and left on lees for 5 months before being racked to tank and bottled soon after.

Meet the owners

Two Tonne Tasmania takes its name from its very first vintage, when winemaker Ricky Evans was given two tonnes of Pinot Noir fruit in exchange for a temporary winemaking gig back in 2013. After honing his craft under Ed Carr at Bay of Fires, Ricky launched his own label with a philosophy he still holds to today, small parcels, big love. Centred on his own Woodlawn Park vineyard in the Tamar Valley, with fruit also drawn from the East, South and North coasts, the range is all about capturing Tasmania's subregional diversity with precision and restraint.

About the region

The Tamar Valley is Tasmania's oldest wine region, stretching from Launceston to the Bass Strait in the state's north. Its cool maritime climate and iron-rich soils create ideal growing conditions, and the numbers speak for themselves, home to over 30 family-owned wineries, the Tamar Valley accounts for more than a third of Tasmania's total wine production. Viticulture here goes back a long way too, with the first commercial vineyard established in the mid-1800s at Windermere, its cuttings even helping establish some of South Australia's earliest vineyards. Today, the Tamar Valley is celebrated for its Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, Riesling and sparkling wines, each one reflecting the region's exceptional terroir and winemaking heritage.
