Ossa
Ossa Pinot Noir 2022
(0)
$120.00
Ossa is a name worth knowing. This 2022 opens with generous layers of ripe red berries and black cherry, complemented by sweet spice and the subtle fragrance of forest floor. The palate is velvety and rich, with smooth, silky tannins creating a balanced and luxurious mouthfeel. A wine of considerable depth from Tasmania's East Coast, one that lingers long after the glass is empty. Pair with duck, venison, or aged cheddar. Drink now through 2030.

Aroma
Ripe red berries, black cherry, sweet spice, and forest floor.
Palette
Velvety richness with layers of ripe red berries, black cherry, and fragrant spice, supported by smooth and silky tannins. Luxurious, with depth and smooth tannins.
Pairings
Given its velvety richness and layered sweet spice, this Pinot Noir would shine alongside something a little more indulgent, like a five spice glazed pork belly, seared venison with a berry reduction, or duck breast with star anise. For something unexpected, try it with dark chocolate-dusted charcuterie, roasted beetroot and goat cheese salad, or a fig and walnut tart, letting the wine's silky tannins and forest floor notes play against the sweetness.
Wine Making
Parcels of Pinot Noir clones 777, 114 and D5V12 were fermented separately with small inclusions of whole berry and whole cluster. Matured for 11 months in 500L French oak puncheons (15% new) with minimal intervention prior to bottling.
Meet the owners
Ossa takes its name from Tasmania's highest mountain, a fitting nod to founders Rod and Cecile Roberts' ambitions when they purchased their 600-hectare East Coast farm, Belbrook, in 2017. Winemaker Liam McElhinney, originally from Marlborough, New Zealand, joined soon after, bringing experience from wine regions across the world. Only the best parcels each year make it into an Ossa bottle, a strict selection process that has already earned the label a Jimmy Watson Trophy and a reputation as one of Tasmania's most exciting new names.

East Coast
About the region
Stretching from St Helens in the north to Bream Creek in the south, Tasmania's East Coast is as breathtaking as it is bountiful. A milder climate than the rest of the state, spectacular coastal scenery, and over 300 hectares under vine make this one of Tasmania's most exciting wine regions. Pinot Noir and Chardonnay are the stars, but the East Coast also turns out outstanding Riesling, Pinot Gris and Sauvignon Blanc, wines with a freshness and purity that's genuinely hard to find anywhere else.
