Aroma

Very pale in colour, the nose shows plenty of citrus bergamot and yuzu notes with the trademark Tee Tree apple skin character also evident.

Palette

On the palate there is plenty of lemon sherbet and lime zest with greengage plum juiciness. The acid on the palate is tangy and vibrant with a salivating, wet stone, refreshing finish.

Pairings

Pairs well with fresh oysters, sashimi, or Vietnamese cuisine, matching the wine's precision and zesty character.

Wine Making

Hand harvested in two picks on 9 April 2024 at 12.1 Bé and 15 April 2024 at 12.4 Bé. Both picks were destemmed and left in contact with skins for about 8 hours prior to gentle pressing.
100% wild fermented (by indigenous yeasts) in stainless steel over 8 weeks.
The ferments were arrested in early July and left on lees prior to blending.

Meet the owners

Stargazer is the work of Samantha "Sam" Connew, a New Zealand-born winemaker who spent a decade as senior winemaker at Wirra Wirra before starting her own label in the Coal River Valley in 2013. The name pays tribute to Abel Tasman, the Dutch explorer who first connected her old home to her new one. Sam's Palisander Vineyard in Tea Tree produces Pinot Noir, Riesling and Chardonnay alongside more experimental drops like Gamay and Pinot Blanc, all farmed with a strong focus on sustainability and letting each vintage's character shine through.

Coal River Valley

About the region

Tucked into the valleys surrounding the historic town of Richmond, the Coal River Valley is Tasmania's sunniest wine region. Low rainfall, abundant sunshine and cooling breezes off the Tasman Sea come together to create conditions that are about as close to perfect as it gets for grape growing. It shows in the wines: Chardonnay with real texture and depth, Pinot Noir with elegance and structure, Riesling with precision, and sparkling wines that hold their own against the best in the world.
