Gewürztraminer is one of the most distinctive white varieties in the world. Pooley's Coal River Valley expression is a beautiful example of what Tasmania can do with it. Nashi pear, dried rose petals, and Turkish Delight on the nose that are fragrant and captivating. The palate is dry and elegant, with crab apple and red delicious apple unfolding alongside crisp, refreshing acidity. Bright fruit flavours and delicate florals make this a wine that's as versatile as it is aromatic. Pair with spicy Asian dishes, Thai cuisine, or soft cheeses. Drink now through 2028.

Wine Making

Fruit sourced from the Tamar Valley, hand picked in the early hours of the morning at low temperatures to maintain freshness and fruit flavour. 24 hours of skin contacted before pressing to tank for fermentation in stainless steel. Inoculated with TXL yeast, and matured on lees for 3 months prior to bottling.

Meet the owners

Pooley Wines has been a Coal River Valley institution since 1985, when Denis and Margaret Pooley planted the first vines at Cooinda Vale. Three generations on, the family now farms two sites, Cooinda Vale and the heritage-listed Butcher's Hill at Richmond, and has built a reputation as one of the finest producers of Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Riesling in the country. Anna Pooley, granddaughter of the founders, now leads winemaking alongside her husband Justin Bubb, carrying forward a family story built on patience, place and three generations of care.

About the region

Tucked into the valleys surrounding the historic town of Richmond, the Coal River Valley is Tasmania's sunniest wine region. Low rainfall, abundant sunshine and cooling breezes off the Tasman Sea come together to create conditions that are about as close to perfect as it gets for grape growing. It shows in the wines: Chardonnay with real texture and depth, Pinot Noir with elegance and structure, Riesling with precision, and sparkling wines that hold their own against the best in the world.
