Palette

Some people prefer a heavily oaked Chardonnay, others one that has never seen the inside of a barrel. We feel we have hit the perfect balance with ours, fermenting 40% in new French Oak and the remainder in both old French Oak and stainless-steel tank. This generates a broader mouthfeel – creamy without being buttery – before giving way to light citrus fruit on the palate. The finish is stone fruit and lime, with a generous dollop of custard: freshly burnished crème brûlee. This wine has been a hit with Chardonnay fans, sceptics and judges alike.

Pairings

Pairs beautifully with grilled seafood, scallops, roast chicken, creamy pasta, pork, fresh oysters and soft cheeses. Its balance of freshness and texture also complements dishes with butter, herbs and light cream sauces.

Meet the owners

Eastford Creek came about almost by accident. Rob and Sue Nichols, better known for their poultry farming, planted their first vines on the North West Coast back in 2018 after a passing bottle of wine sparked an idea. The vineyard sits on a rocky outcrop overlooking the North West Coast, one of Tasmania's smallest and least-known wine subregions, and the family-run cellar door now welcomes visitors into restored 140-year-old agricultural sheds. Small in scale, but full of character.
