Winstead
Winstead Lot 16 Pinot Noir 2019
(0)
$44.00
The Lot 16 is Winstead's most mature release currently available and it's drinking beautifully. Deep red in the glass, with dark fruit and spicy oak on the nose. The palate is smooth and structured, with sweet cherry and strawberry flavours showing the elegance that comes with time in bottle. A wine of real complexity and finesse from one of Tasmania's quieter achievers. Pair with duck confit, venison, or aged hard cheese. Drink now through 2028.

Aroma
Aromas of black cherry, strawberry, violet, forest floor, nutmeg, and subtle aromatic oak with an elegant savoury lift.
Palette
Deep black/red with sparkling crystal clarity. Black cherry with some dusty caramel and oak notes. With four years of bottle age, the pimply awkwardness of adolescence has been left behind. The palate is warm, soft, smooth and velvety. Sweet cherry chocolate are the first sensations, followed by a building warmth through the mid palate and finishing long with the fine tannins and French oak lingering. Match this with roast duck or venison for a real treat.
Pairings
Pair with char-grilled quail, duck, roast chicken, pork, mushroom dishes, and soft cheeses, with its silky texture, red fruit flavours, fine tannins, and savoury complexity complementing refined dishes.
Meet the owners
Winstead is a genuinely tiny operation in Bagdad, in Tasmania's Southern Midlands, a region known for warmer days and cooler nights than the coastal parts of the state. That inland climate gives the fruit a chance to ripen fully while still holding onto the acidity Tasmania is famous for. Vigneron Neil Snare farms the 3-hectare site using biological and biodynamic practices, making small volumes of Riesling and two distinct single vineyard Pinot Noirs entirely on site, wines with a genuine reputation for ageing well.

Derwent Valley
About the region
The Derwent Valley follows the river north from Hobart through some of Tasmania's most beautiful farming country. It's a region of contrasts, warm days, cold nights, and a long growing season that builds flavour slowly and deliberately. Home to some of Tasmania's most thoughtful producers, the Derwent Valley is known for Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Riesling of real elegance and precision.
