Aroma

The nose offers lifted aromas of red cherry, raspberry and strawberry, layered with delicate floral notes, savoury herbs and subtle earthy complexity.

Palette

Pinot Noir is a classic Tasmanian grape, but our Wheelwright Pinot is unique not just to the North West Coast, but to our own site. Grown in rich farming soil, our Pinot displays plum, cranberry and milk chocolate notes. It has been deliberately blended to produce a lighter mouthfeel than its richer, more intense sister-bottling, the Blacksmith. These gentler notes continue across the palate with waves of raspberries and cherries complimenting a subtle earthiness. The finish is assertive but doesn’t overstay its welcome, with pleasant hints of boysenberry and blood orange.

Pairings

A versatile and food-friendly wine, it pairs wonderfully with duck, roast chicken, pork, mushroom dishes, salmon, charcuterie and soft cheeses.

Meet the owners

Eastford Creek came about almost by accident. Rob and Sue Nichols, better known for their poultry farming, planted their first vines on the North West Coast back in 2018 after a passing bottle of wine sparked an idea. The vineyard sits on a rocky outcrop overlooking the North West Coast, one of Tasmania's smallest and least-known wine subregions, and the family-run cellar door now welcomes visitors into restored 140-year-old agricultural sheds. Small in scale, but full of character.
