Aroma
Pretty violet, red cherry, raspberry and anise scents sail through the olfactory senses with hints of fresh herbs, forest floor and delicate spicy cedar also evident.
Palette
Semi translucent bright red to dark red core with a light purple red tinged hue. Fresh and juicy, a moreish mix of red cherry, strawberry, raspberry and red liquorice fruits burst across the palate with terrific power and intensity. Savoury back drop with elements of forest floor, subtle dried herbs and spicy cedar making an appearance. Velvet smooth flow with a slightly chiselled feel to the tannins. Energetic acidity lending vibrancy to the long, delectable finish.
Pairings
Pairs beautifully with duck, roast chicken, pork, mushroom dishes, and aged cheeses, with its vibrant red fruit, silky texture, fine tannins, and earthy complexity complementing elegant flavours.
Wine Making
The 2024 vintage followed Tasmania’s driest summer on record, delivering clean, concentrated fruit. These are structured, expressive Pinots with immediate appeal and excellent cellaring potential.
The 2024 Seven Inch Pinot Noir marks a decade of collaboration with growers Max and Sue Kitchell in the Huon Valley.
Meet the owners
Chatto is the very personal project of Jim Chatto, one of Australia's most respected winemakers, made in the Huon Valley alongside his day job as a senior winemaker on the mainland. Jim fell for Tasmanian Pinot Noir while working at Rosevears Estate in the late 1990s, and spent six years searching for the perfect site before planting the Isle Vineyard at Glaziers Bay in 2007, one of the most southerly vineyards in the country. Now producing up to ten expressions of Pinot Noir sourced from across the island, Chatto is proof of just how far a single-minded obsession with one variety can go.

Huon Valley
About the region
Deep in Tasmania's south, the Huon Valley is one of the island's most dramatic wine regions, steep hillsides, ancient apple orchards, and a cool, wet climate that really pushes grapes to their limits. That challenge is exactly what gives the wines their intensity and character. Pinot Noir thrives here, producing wines with dark fruit, earthy complexity and a structure built for the cellar. A region for anyone after something genuinely different.
