Tasting Notes

Pale straw with subtle golden highlights, hinting at the wine’s richness. Fresh and inviting aromas of ripe pear, crisp apple, and citrus blossom, with delicate floral notes of white lily and hints of stone fruit, like nectarine and apricot.
On the palate, this Pinot Gris is smooth and round, with juicy flavors of green apple, honeydew melon, and a touch of lemon zest. Its mouthfeel is light yet slightly textured, showcasing a perfect balance between fruit-forward sweetness and vibrant acidity. The finish is clean and refreshing, with a touch of minerality and a lingering note of ripe citrus, making it crisp and satisfying.

Winemaking

Fruit sourced from growers on the west tamar, we always pick gris in two waves. The first parcel comes from Chartley, just as flavour accumulates, some time soaking on skins prior to pressing off to chase the flavour. This mostly goes to barrel, a mix of barrique and puncheon, all seasoned, this is more or less the stock cube for our wine, heaps of texture.

The later picks all go to stainless, nice cold & steady ferments, looking for classical pristine Tasmanian style here. Everything stayed on lees for around 3 months before assembling and resting a little longer on light lees until the time was right to head to bottle.

More textural and generous in flavour than the previous year, somewhat of a hallmark of the season.

Tamar Valley

The Tamar Valley is Tasmania’s oldest wine region, located in Northern Tasmania and stretching from Launceston to the Bass Strait.

This region is renowned for its cool maritime climate and iron-rich soils, which provide ideal growing conditions for producing premium wines.

Home to over 30 family-owned wineries, the Tamar Valley accounts for more than a third of Tasmania’s total wine production. The region has a long history of viticulture, with its first commercial vineyard established in the mid-1800s at Windermere, and its cuttings even contributing to the early vineyards in South Australia.

Today, the Tamar Valley is celebrated for its Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, Riesling, and sparkling wines, all of which reflect the region’s exceptional terroir and winemaking heritage.
