The Josef Chromy Sauvignon Blanc 2024 is a vibrant and refreshing expression of this classic varietal, offering intense aromas of citrus, kiwi fruit, gooseberry, and fresh cut grass. Herbal notes of fennel, dill, and crunchy celery add a layer of complexity and freshness.

On the palate, the wine is dry and mineral-driven with a delightful chalky texture, filled with flavours of pomelo, fresh lemon juice, and lime zest, complemented by hints of white peach and fennel.

Its elevated acidity delivers a clean, zesty finish, making it a perfect match for fresh seafood or light summer dishes.

Winemaking

Sauvignon Blanc grapes were picked at optimal ripeness in early April. The grapes were promptly pressed under dry ice cover, and the free run juice separated and clarified to maximise the wine’s aromatic potential. The cool fermentation lasted approximately two weeks and was monitored daily. Clear wine was racked from its lees and left to mature in tank for several months prior to bottling.

Tamar Valley

The Tamar Valley is Tasmania’s oldest wine region, located in Northern Tasmania and stretching from Launceston to the Bass Strait.

This region is renowned for its cool maritime climate and iron-rich soils, which provide ideal growing conditions for producing premium wines.

Home to over 30 family-owned wineries, the Tamar Valley accounts for more than a third of Tasmania’s total wine production. The region has a long history of viticulture, with its first commercial vineyard established in the mid-1800s at Windermere, and its cuttings even contributing to the early vineyards in South Australia.

Today, the Tamar Valley is celebrated for its Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, Riesling, and sparkling wines, all of which reflect the region’s exceptional terroir and winemaking heritage.
