The Josef Chromy Chardonnay 2022 is a celebration of elegance, purity, and freshness. This beautifully layered Chardonnay offers enticing aromas of nuts and oak spice, with hints of flint and a bright bouquet of citrus and stone fruit.

On the palate, a mineral, chalky quality combined with a touch of sea spray gives the wine a refreshing lift. The balance of texture and weight is perfectly complemented by lively acidity, driving tension and energy throughout the wine.

Flavours of citrus, fine toasty oak, and a subtle note of nutmeg spice add depth and complexity, leading to a long, moreish finish.

Winemaking

Sourced from our premium Chardonnay block, fruit is hand-picked when cold and whole bunch pressed. The juice is settled overnight and barrelled in French oak barriques (30% new) with a Very Tight Grain. 20% is set to wild yeast fermentation and the balance is inoculated with 3 yeast strains to accentuate fruit, weight and texture. 60% of the 2022 Chardonnay underwent malolactic fermentation which contributed greatly to the wine’s texture and structure. The wine spent seven months in barrel with gentle stirring as required, then rested in tank on lees to maintain freshness and further develop complexity. Minimal fining was carried out, and the wine was bottled in early 2023.

Tamar Valley

The Tamar Valley is Tasmania’s oldest wine region, located in Northern Tasmania and stretching from Launceston to the Bass Strait.

This region is renowned for its cool maritime climate and iron-rich soils, which provide ideal growing conditions for producing premium wines.

Home to over 30 family-owned wineries, the Tamar Valley accounts for more than a third of Tasmania’s total wine production. The region has a long history of viticulture, with its first commercial vineyard established in the mid-1800s at Windermere, and its cuttings even contributing to the early vineyards in South Australia.

Today, the Tamar Valley is celebrated for its Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, Riesling, and sparkling wines, all of which reflect the region’s exceptional terroir and winemaking heritage.
