The Holm Oak Chardonnay 2023 is a refined and elegant cool-climate Chardonnay, crafted from fruit sourced from three separate blocks.

On the nose, enjoy aromas of citrus fruit, apricot kernel, and white peach, harmoniously integrated with spicy oak. The palate is rich and textural, thanks to malolactic fermentation and extended time on lees, yet finishes with a clean, fine minerally acidity.

A subtle oyster shell savouriness and mineral character enhance the wine’s complexity, making it a beautifully balanced expression of cool-climate winemaking.

Tasting Notes

Aroma: Citrus fruit, apricot kernel, white peach, with spicy integrated oak.

Palate: Textural richness from malolactic fermentation, balanced by a fine, minerally finish with subtle savouriness.

Finish: Crisp, minerally acidity with delicate oyster shell complexity.

Winemaking

The fruit for this wine was picked when the flavour profile was in the citrus/nectarine spectrum. Three clones of Chardonnay from two separate blocks were used to make this wine. The fruit was gently pressed to tank and allowed to settle for 24 hours prior to being packed to the barrel (30% new French oak and 70% 1-4 year old). The wine underwent 100% natural fermentation and 50% malolactic fermentation. The wine was then matured in oak for months with occasional lees stirring to enhance texture and mouthfeel.

About the Vineyard

Holm Oak is a labour of love for winemaker Bec Duffy and her husband Tim Duffy, viticulturalist. Since 2006 they have followed their dream of crafting delicious expressions of cool-climate Tasmanian wines.

One of Bec and Tim’s shared passions is to create things. They simply love to craft treasures from Mother Nature’s wonderland. They are creative winemakers, pushing boundaries and trying new techniques, but always remaining true to Tasmania’s highly regarded winemaking reputation.

Their complementary skills drive their vision to produce delicious wines that reflect their home, Tasmania’s pristine Tamar Valley, and their own personalities – honest, down to earth, genuine and authentic.

Tamar Valley

The Tamar Valley is Tasmania’s oldest wine region, located in Northern Tasmania and stretching from Launceston to the Bass Strait.

This region is renowned for its cool maritime climate and iron-rich soils, which provide ideal growing conditions for producing premium wines.

Home to over 30 family-owned wineries, the Tamar Valley accounts for more than a third of Tasmania’s total wine production. The region has a long history of viticulture, with its first commercial vineyard established in the mid-1800s at Windermere, and its cuttings even contributing to the early vineyards in South Australia.

Today, the Tamar Valley is celebrated for its Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, Riesling, and sparkling wines, all of which reflect the region’s exceptional terroir and winemaking heritage.
