The Evenfall Chardonnay 2022 is a beautifully balanced expression of Tasmania’s cool-climate winemaking, blending fruit from the renowned Tamar Valley and the East Coast.

On the nose, this medium-bodied Chardonnay offers enticing aromas of lemon, peach, and a subtle hint of nuttiness. The palate is smooth and elegant, delivering flavours of citrus and peach, complemented by refined textures of almond meal and lemon curd.

A bright acidity ensures balance without overpowering the delicate complexity, while the rich, creamy finish leaves a lasting impression. Perfect for those who appreciate a crisp, yet layered Chardonnay.

Tasting Notes

Aroma: Fresh lemon, peach, and a touch of nuttiness.

Palate: Citrus and peach with a smooth, creamy texture, and hints of almond meal and lemon curd.

Finish: Balanced with bright acidity, rich and refined.

Winemaking

Pristine parcels from East Coast and Tamar Valley vineyards were hand-picked, chilled and then committed to French oak barrels. Eleven months in wood with partial malolactic fermentation and encouraged lees contact then completed the vinification and maturation. There is little doubt that no wine style has changed quite as dramatically in Australia as Chardonnay, and Tasmania has really been a driver of that. A fuller understanding of cooler sites, and improved knowledge of, and access to, better clones, has transformed a once ubiquitous and full-bodied style in something much more nuanced and detailed than before.

About the Vineyard

Nestled on the edge of the Tamar Valley in Tasmania, Evenfall Vineyard is a favourite among the region’s wineries. Our vineyard is meticulously planted with Pinot, Chardonnay, and some of the oldest Cabernet vines in Tasmania, reflecting our heritage as one of Tasmania’s founding sites.

Our eastern-facing slopes benefit from the Tamar River’s moderating influence, which regulates temperature and provides humidity that helps to shield our grapes from harsh UV rays. This natural protection ensures the optimal growth of our vines, contributing to the uniqueness of our wines.

A small creek runs along the southern side of our vineyard, connecting to the Tamar River. This creates a natural breeze way that flows through our vineyard, cooling the grapes as it passes through the leaves, enhancing their quality and flavour.

Evenfall Vineyard thrives, reaching its full potential year after year. Overseen with dedication and expertise, our vineyard continues to produce exceptional wines, reflecting the true character of our unique location.

Our 2022 vintage received much acclaim. Our Pinot Noir in particular receiving 95/100 in industry reviews. We anticipate a similar reception with the release of our 2023 vintage.

Tamar Valley

The Tamar Valley is Tasmania’s oldest wine region, located in Northern Tasmania and stretching from Launceston to the Bass Strait.

This region is renowned for its cool maritime climate and iron-rich soils, which provide ideal growing conditions for producing premium wines.

Home to over 30 family-owned wineries, the Tamar Valley accounts for more than a third of Tasmania’s total wine production. The region has a long history of viticulture, with its first commercial vineyard established in the mid-1800s at Windermere, and its cuttings even contributing to the early vineyards in South Australia.

Today, the Tamar Valley is celebrated for its Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, Riesling, and sparkling wines, all of which reflect the region’s exceptional terroir and winemaking heritage.
