The Apogee 'Alto' Pinot Noir 2022 is a beautifully expressive wine, reflecting both its exceptional terroir and meticulous craftsmanship. On the nose, rich aromas of coffee-like French oak, earthy forest floor, and cherry liqueur are layered with hints of red currant pastille.

The mid-colour and bright ruby hue introduce a palate with unusually intense sweet fruit on the mid-palate, giving way to a long, soft finish with highly aromatic red fruits.

The Apogee vineyard lends this Pinot Noir a unique combination of floral and fruit characteristics, with notes of rose, raspberry, and lavender, accompanied by emerging gamey characters that add complexity and depth.

Tasting Notes

Aroma: Coffee-like French oak, earthy forest floor, cherry liqueur, and red currant pastille.

Palate: Sweet fruit on the mid-palate with red fruits, floral notes of rose, raspberry, and lavender, and a long, soft finish.

Finish: Smooth and lingering, with highly aromatic red fruits and subtle gamey characters.

Winemaking

2022 was a warm season and it has produced one of my favourite wines of the moment. Harvested 13 April 2022. 100% French oak. Our usual soft aromatic style.
The objective is to present the highly aromatic qualities of the pinot noir grown at Apogee — aromatic red cherry liqueur and raspberry: without excessive oak intrusion.
The key structural component of the palate is natural, cool-climate acidity supported with soft grape tannins. Traditional Burgundian methods are employed including cold soak, wild yeast, and aging in French oak barriques.
